Description: Turin: Imprimerie Royale, 1865. Large 4to, 31cm. Pp. [2,blank],83, many figs. against tinted background on 35 lithographed plates (incl. 3 folding). New boards lined with red vergé paper, front and rear part of original wrappers mounted, uncut. In fine condition. - Rare and well illustrated monograph on the fossil Neogene flora of the Piemont region, NW Italy. One of the folding plates is verly large, the print area measures 38x80cm and depicts a leaf in natural size of the fern species Phoenicites Pallavicini. - In this copy the first four plates are supplied in contemporary photographic copy in slightly reduced size of very good quality, mounted on thin cardboard with printed caption text added and bound itogether with the other plates at the time of publication - possibly because of lack of originals at end-of-stock at the publishers?
