Description: London, D. Midwinter, W. Innys, R. Manby, Ward, Symon, Longman Knapton & Pemberton. 1740 5th 2 volumes. Hardbacks, 8 x 5 inches. Full polished speckled calf leather bindings, raised and gilt banding to spines, with gilt lettered labels, and gilt paneled boards. Red speckled edges & plain endpapers. In very good conditions. Spines and edges of boards darkened. Some rubbing and handling marks. Corners slightly bumped. A couple of minor nicks to boards. Top end of spine chipped on vol.2. Small 1 inch crack to top of front hinge vol.1. Endpapers darkened around edges. Bookplates to fronts “Wm. Mostyn” & “W.M. Owen, Esq. Woodhouse.” And inscribed again on title pages “Mostyn, Schola Carthusian.” Some minor marks and handling to pages, some light/mild foxing in places. Small tear to bottom corner of p.29 v.1. (margin only.) Plates and maps bright and clean. Else very clean and tight copies. 425 + 408pp + 1pp cat (vol.1.) Illustrated with 2 engraved frontis plates and 2 engraved folding maps. Decorative woodcut chapter headers & tailpieces.
