D. Campbell June 1822', contemporary h.-leather with corners, spine on 5 bands. Green morocco titlepiece & brown morocco - volumepiece on spine. ¶ First English edition. Fine fresh copy without any stains, fine contemporary binding signed 'David Bryce Glasgow'. Among the first Frenchmen to tread the soil of Switzerland after the downfall of the Empire was Louis Simond, who had travelled in England. Simond had good fortune to be shown over the Linth canalisation works by none other than Escher von der Linth himself, and also of hearing an account by this distinguished man, at a meeting of scientists at Lausanne, of the disastrous flood of 1818 in the 'Val de Bagne'.
