For his remarkable contributions to our knowledge of an entirely new aspect of the properties of matter the 1929 Nobel Prize was awarded to De Broglie for the discovery of the wave nature of electrons. The discovery was not only of fundamental importance for our concept of nature. It also gave research an extremely important and serviceable method for investigating the structure of matter, especially as it may be applied with ease to extremely small quantities.
