Atlas with 33 double plates/charts/maps as called for. Without a proper title page, but the introduction is headed by the title with date and editor's name (as published ?). The Le Sage atlases, first appearing very early in the 19th century, were among the most important of their time. The historical (thematic) atlas, with attractive copperplate engraved maps, handcolored (as issued) is on heavy paper. Our volume has its original boards with a magnificient lithographic illustration. Historical and geographical attributes and ornaments (a.o. the name of Herodote in Greek on a central pannel, Globes, Pyramides), the centerpiece shows a human figure surrounded by 4 puttis and a large ornamented border. This is an exceptionally early lithogr. binding. It must be regarded as an early illustrated jackett, and I haven't seen a copy like this one in 45 years of antiquarian bookselling.
