Description: London, (William Clowes for) Religious Tract Society, n.d., ca. 1880, in-4°, chromolithographic front 'the summit of the Aiguille Verte' + 214 p. (recte 212 p., incl. front. - forword -contents -), with many xylographic illustrations (after drawings by Edw. Whymper) of which 24 full-page + 1 colorplate: 'Mont-Blanc from above Morges', original green cloth decorated with gilt eagle and chamois framed in decorative black lines, gilt edges, top of spine and along the joints a bit split, corners bumped, in all still a nice copy. ¶ Probably the second edition, with a preface. Richly illustrated with engravings, town and village views, landscapes, mountains, mounteneering, glaciers, costumes, animals, railways, etc. For this new edition much new topics have been introduced and upwards of thirty new illustrations have been added a large proportion by Swiss artists they will be found worthy to take their place alongside those by Mr. Whymper, greatly admired in the earlier editions.
