(recte 212 p., incl. front. - preface - contents -), with many xylographic illustrations (after drawings by Edw. Whymper) of which 24 full-page with 2 chromolithographic plates, the frontispice & 'Mont-Blanc from above Morges' (p.195), , ex libris Peter E. Obergfell, original red/brown cloth decorated with gilt eagle and chamois framed in decorative black lines, gilt edges. ¶ New (Third) edition, with a notice at the end of the preface 'upwards to 30 new illustrations have been added, a large proportion by Swiss artists'. Front a bit loosening. Richly illustrated with engravings, town and village views, landscapes, mountains, mountaineering, glaciers, costumes, animals, railways, etc. This title was an immense library success and went through several editions, all with slight differences of bindings, frontispices and illustrations.
