Description: London, Simpkin, Marshall & Co. Stationers Hall Court. Bath: R.E. Peach, n.d. (1863), in-8vo, 79 p., with 2 full page illustrations, exlbris Peter E. Obergfell, original clothbound with gilt title on bookcover. All edges gilt. ¶ Among the 12 chapters in this little book about a trip to the 'Cottynent', one is specially funny 'How they went to Chamounix & The 'Aeronant' is rescued!'. A story where the Simpleton Family goes to Chamounix or 'Shammy' as they called it. Mr. S. thought (after traveling already for a while) to go back to Paris but 'you wouldn't be so stoopid, would you, ...now you came so far, without seeing Mont Blank?. It relates the tourist trip with mules to the 'Chapeau' were they were to cross the 'Mer de Glace' on foot, sending their mules round the other way, called Montanvert. Of cource all kind of incidents are happening to the poor Mr. Simpleton, and as he 'missed his footing and rolled on to the ice, remaining on his back like a tortoise..., the guide helped him to an erect position again informing him it was decidedly the safest manner of progressing in Switzerland'. For sure an 'Alpine Curiosity!. Please notify before visiting to see a book. Prices are excl. VAT/TVA (only Switzerland) & postage. Perret. -
