It relates the tourist trip with mules to the 'Chapeau' were they were to cross the 'Mer de Glace' on foot, sending their mules round the other way, called Montanvert. Of cource all kind of incidents are happening to the poor Mr. Simpleton, and as he 'missed his footing and rolled on to the ice, remaining on his back like a tortoise..., the guide helped him to an erect position again informing him it was decidedly the safest manner of progressing in Switzerland'.
