Jahrhunderts. Bernardo May. An attractive album of 28 Cuban views of daily life in the mid-19th century, with views of the countryside, local sights, street views, and a panorama of Havana. These views appeared first in Louis Marquier's series Viaje pintoresco al rededor de la Isla de Cuba (Havana: 1847- 1848) with lithographs by Pierre Mialhe. Bernardo May copied these and issued them between 1851 and 1853 when a plagiarism suit was brought. As the result of the lawsuit, May issued the present chromolithographed versions. Original red cloth with gilt title, stains on first cover, spine renewed, plates with thumbling and stains in the white margins mainly. In all a very good, complete copy with the folded map of the island and a town plan of Havanna. Please notify before visiting to see a book. Prices are excl. VAT/TVA (only Switzerland) & postage.
