'The story of Mont-Blanc' is an ample historical excursion on Chamonix and Mont-Blanc. It also contains Albert Smith's account of his own ascent in 1851, the 36th, which first appeared in 'Blackwood's Magazine' for January 1852, followed the same year by its first appearance in bookform. 'Cet ouvrage constitue la première véritable monographie sur le Mont-Blanc. Il est une des dernières manifestations de la période des "glacières" et, par sa popularité, il a contribué à l'avènement d'une nouvelle génération d'alpinistes...
