He was a Dutch botanist and the son of Reinier Cornelis Bakhuizen van den Brink (1881-1945), botanist at the Herbarium of 's Lands Plantentuin in Bogor. Reinier Cornelis Bakhuizen van den Brink senior provided the botanical descriptions for this edition. R.C. Bakhuizen van den Brink junior provided his name in ink on the flyleaf.
