With armorial bookplate of Edward Montagu Stuart Granville, Earl of Wharncliffe. - - The author Robert Wilson served under Lieutenant-General Sir Ralph Abercromby (7 October 1734 - 28 March 1801) during the campaign. Abercromby was a Scottish soldier and politician. He is known for his service during the French Revolutionary Wars, ultimately in the Egyptian campaign. His strategies are considered among the most daring and brilliant achievements of the British army.
