Sture Lagercrantz (1910 - 2001) was a Swedish ethnographer and professor of ethnography at Uppsala University from 1962 to 1976. He wrote important works on ethnography and cultural history of Africa.- - Archaeological Researches at Teotihuacan, Mexico documents the 1932 excavations of Swedish archaeologist Sigvald Linne at the vast City of the Gods in central Mexico. Previous fieldwork at Teotihaucan had focused on monumental architecture in the ceremonial center, but Linne's interests lay with the residents themselves. He chose an area away from the pyramids where he found in cultivated cornfields large quantities of broken pottery and stone tools. He reasoned that this material would have been used by inhabitants in a domestic setting, and at the end of his season, he had uncovered the foundations of a ruined house, a complex of many connected rooms surrounding a courtyard. This compound, called Xolalpan, was the first scientifically investigated residence at Teotihuacan. Linne's excavation techniques were far advanced for his era and have served as a standard of excellence to the present day.
