Because propaganda was incredibly important to the union, it decided to set up its own printing house in 1918. The printing house was built in the then new Ondiep district. Lumax printing house (loosely translated: Light) printed all kinds of union magazines, Catholic periodicals, books and much more. In the thirties, the printing house also acquired the Catholic Volkskrant and the famous artists' magazine De Gemeenschap. The printing house was expanded several times and led a very successful existence. After the Second World War, things went downhill: the Volkskrant had moved to Amsterdam and the depillarisation meant that the Roman Catholic union would eventually merge into the FNV union. The printing house Lumax ceased to exist at the end of the seventies.
