To mark the 200th anniversary of his birth, the wonderful work of August Siegert (1820-1883) is finally being presented in a new light in this extensive catalogue. After studying at the Du¨sseldorfer Akademie, Siegert quickly rose to become one of the most successful genre painters of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule. Following historical and biblical themes, he specialised in entertaining scenes of late Biedermeier family happiness, cute children in the studio or tavern scenes in the tradition of Dutch Baroque genre painting. In doing so, he was in keeping with the spirit of the times and found passionate collectors in Europe and the USA. - Text in German.
