Professionally matted with acid-free museum cardboard.* Cornelis Vreedenburgh (Woerden, 25 augustus 1880 - Laren, 27 juni 1946) was a Dutch painter that was a member of the Larense School. As he progressed in his artistic journey, Vreedenburgh received guidance from prominent painters W.B. Tholen and Paul Arntzenius. His passion lay in depicting water landscapes, often venturing out with Tholen to paint the inland waters and rivers, including the picturesque region surrounding Kaag in the Kagerplassen. Notably, Vreedenburgh’s brother, Herman, was also an accomplished painter. Following his marriage to the painter M. Schotel, the couple spent some time in the then-unknown Saint-Tropez. Returning to the Netherlands, they initially settled in Hattem before eventually making their home in the artistic community of Laren in 1918. Despite their move, Vreedenburgh frequently returned to Amsterdam, for the canals in particular were an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the painter. This drawing depicts an interior, although it is unsiged it's style, type of paper, border, annotations resembles drawings from that same period. The interior consists of a table with a cup and saucer, a divan with a lute laying on it, a cupboard and a wall full of pictures in the background.
