Size: 4,0 cm. - Very sl. discoloured.* Very decorative commemorative coin (medal / penning), issued at the 200 year jubilee of the Dutch reformed orphanage of Amsterdam (Diacononie-weeshuis der Nederlands Hervormde gemeente in Amsterdam. On one side is depicted the front-facade of the orphanage itsel with the caption: Dia. Weeshuis Dep. Ned. Herv. Gem. te Amsterdam. At the reverse side are depicted two orpans (a boy and a girl) and an female allegorical seated figure pointing in a direction (wisdom leading the way?). Above is the caption: God is een vader der weezen (God is a father of the orphans). With the date: 15 dec. 1657 - 1857 below. The coin was designed and signed by Samuel Cohen Elion (1812 - 1880).
