From 1899 to 1940 he served in various positions at the missionary company C. Kersten en Co. in Paramaribo and at a timber trade affiliated with C.K.C. (Centraal Kolonisatie Comite) in Amsterdam. He became general manager in 1934. A remarkable man who stimulated business and was one of the few in his time to pay attention to social and economic questions.
