Size: 40 x 30 cm. - Some discolouration. * Cor Jaring (Amsterdam December 18th 1936 - Amsterdam November 17th 2013) was a Dutch photographer and artist. He is widely known for photographing Amsterdam during the sixties and seventies. Most of his photographs are in black and white. Especially his photographs of the provo-movement. Their most prominent members (Jasper Grootveld, Simon Vinkenoog, Johnny van Doorn and Theo Kley) and the so called “happenings” are among his most well-known works. In addition, he documented the squaters riots during the coronation of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus in 1966 and the Bed-in for Peace happening by John Lennon and Yoko Ono at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel in 1969. Cor Jaring was awarded first price by the World Press Photo in 1975, the Fotoprijs Amsterdam in 1979 and became honorary citizen of the city of Amsterdam in 1986. His work is in the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and of the City Archives of Amsterdam. Provo was an anarchistic movement that wanted to provoke the establishment with non-violent actions and happenings. The photograph depicts a happening at De Lieverdje. This is a small statue at Spui Square in Amsterdam where most happenings of the Provo-movement were organized.
