Rare, richly illustrated work about the Palace of Sennacherib. This copy does not contain the unnumbered plate with the portrait of sir. Austen Henry Layard (known as the excavator of Nimrud and of Nineveh). This plate is not listed in the overview of the plates, but has been added to copies by the publisher. It is unclear whether this is the case for all issued copies. A photocopy of the original portrait is added to this copy. - Sennacherib [or Sanherib] (died January 681 BCE, Nineveh) was king of Assyria (705/704-681 BCE) and the son of Sargon II. He made Nineveh his capital, built a new palace there and expanded the city.
