Description: [Genčve], Librairie Droz, [2018]. 235 pp. 11 b./w. figs. Orig. harcover (burgundy cloth with gilt lettering). 8vo. (Bibliotheca cynegetica, 8).Pedro López de Ayala (1331-1407) took advantage of the forced leisure of a captivity in Portugal which lasted two years (1385-1387) to write this treatise on falconry which has since continued to be authoritative in Castile. Initiated in this activity from his youth, he had the opportunity to enrich his knowledge through the travels he made as a diplomat in neighboring kingdoms. He brings together in his treatise all this accumulated knowledge and methodically exposes it for future practitioners, illustrating it with many personal memories. It advises on how to choose the best birds, describes in detail the stages of trimming and offers very complete information on the diseases or accidents of which birds can be victims and the best way to treat them, drawing inspiration from a treatise written a few years earlier by Pero Menino, falconer to King Ferdinand I of Portugal. This is the first time that this treatise has been translated into French.
