Scarce complete collection of 32 engravings after paintings in the Galerie du Luxembourg in Paris. This publication offers a perspective of the state of the art of engraving in the decade before the announcement of the invention of the daguerreotype. Included is a.o. the the beautiful engraving of Marie-Guillemine Benoist’s famous painting 'Négresse' (1800), drawn and engraved in 1829 by the French artist Polydore Pauquet (1800 - 1879). Also included in this work is an engraving after Louis Daguerre’s painting, Chapelle des Feuillants (1814) by Augustin-Francois Lemaître. Several plates bearing a blind stamp of the Galerie du Luxembourg. - We have based the dating on a few plates on which it is indicated under the image that they were engraved in 1828 and 1929.
