Description: Te Amsterdam, by Hendrik de Leth, [= Jan Meyer, 1773 ?]. Engraved title-page, 156,[3] (= list of plates & advertisement)] pages text & [52] engr. fold. double-page plates, incl. 35 maps contemp. handcoloured in outlines, 17 b./w. plans on 14 leaves & 2 contemp. handcoloured engr. plates titled Nieuwe Steede-wyzer [...] & Vervolg op de Nieuwe Steedewyzer [...] & 1 uncoloured plate with ship flags. Cont. h.leather, spine raised in compartments & gilt tooled, marbled boards (brown lapwing paper). Crown 8vo. - - Top of spine sl. dam.; cover sl. worn along the extrimities. - - Overall a very good copy. All plate in fine condition. This pocket atlas is partly identical to the copy described in the second volume of Koeman, Atlantis Neerlandici (1969) under Le H 2 (p. 269, dated 1740 by Koeman). It contains the same engraved plates. The text part in the copy described by Koeman under Le H 2 begins with the identical title Beknopte Bescvhryving der Vereenigde Nederlanden but is partly different from our edition. The text in our copy dates (partly) from 1773, as can be seen from the text on page 92: The last [Synodaale Vergadering] was held in the previous year 1772. In addition, the year 1772 also appears in the lists of whalers. Hendrik de Leth died in 1766, an employee of de Leth's company, Jan Meyer, continued the publishing house at a new address and is therefore probably the publisher of this updated version of De Leth's atlas. * Cf.
