Title: Bruxelles sous Leopold Ier. 25 ans de cartes porcelaine 1840-1865.
Description: [Bruxelles, Crédit Communal de Belgique, 1979]. 192 pp. Col. & b./w. ills. Softcover (pictorial wrappers).French text edition. - - Porcelain cards were popular lithographic printed matter, especially in Belgium. Porcelain cards were mainly produced in Belgium, roughly during the reign of Leopold I. In the seventies of the nineteenth century, the technique fell into disuse because people began to realize that the color powders and lead oxide used posed health risks. Ghent, Brussels and Bruges in particular functioned as the beating heart of the porcelain card industry. The printing technique was mainly used for the production of business cards for shops, factories, the self-employed, societies, schools and the like, but also for menus and concert programs.
