The fine steelengravings, always with a refined line, were generally drawn and engraved by the well-known English artist and printer John Shury (fl. 1814 - 1848). The plates bear the imprint of J. Harwood, and in some cases with that of J. & F. Harwood. The last, Frederick Harwood, seemingly a cousin of some, became a partner in 1830 until the partnership was formally dissolved on 12th January 1844. The small view of the Royal Exchange is dated under the plate Aug. 1851. This is also the most recent dating to be found on the plates and it is presumed that this work was also published in this year. - - A smaller version of this edition with a slightly different binding is also known. With this variant, the binding and the pages / plates are approximately 30% smaller.
