Niccolò Jommelli (1714-1774) was one of Italy's most important composers for opera's and church-music during the 18th century. Requiem Mass - compositions were often composed for special ocassions. His Missa Pro Defunctis was commissioned by Landgrave Karl Eugen von Württemberg, who's mother passed away on the first of February 1756. Jommelli had to compose this piece whitin eight days, but completed it already after three days. The requiem became very popular untill Mozart composed (an unfinished) version in 1791.
