Original early 19th century speckled and gilt-tooled half calf over burgundy-coloured paper boards. - Minimal shelfwear affecting the hinges, some of the spine-ends and corners; some discolouration of the outer-extremities of some of the volumes boards, minimal foxing, plates in good condition, owner's entry van de Poll written in ink on the title-pages of all volumes.* Attractive uniformly bound set of four publications with an excellent provenance (owner's entry & gilt name-labels on spines). - - This set belonged to a member of the aristocratic-family Van der Poll, possibly Willem Gerard van de Poll (1793-1872), who was an important Dutch politician under William I (Willem Frederik, Prince of Orange-Nassau; 24 August 1772 - 12 December 1843), a Prince of Orange, the King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg. - This set contains charming illustrations of horses, how they should be tacked up and how to ride with them in formations.
