The Russian government sent an expedition to Astrachan between 1858 and 1860. The Kumo-Manyc-Expedition was aimed to investigate the living-conditions of the Kalmyk tribes. K.I. Kostenkov was the expedition-leader. This is the official report of the expedition and contains many charming plates, depicting Kalmyk families, houses, wrestling-games and local scenery.
