By the end of the 3rd century, Cosa was virtually abandoned. Also in the port, which was so important to the city, all maintenance work was stopped. Traces of use of only two buildings have been found in the 4th century, namely the aforementioned atrium house I and the sanctuary of Liber Pater. After that, the city seems to have been completely abandoned.
