Willem Sandberg and his wife Emy joined the Mazdaznan organisation during the early twenties. This spiritual group propagated fasting, breathing excersises and natural healing. The Mazdaznan-movement was popular amongst artist such as Johannes Itten and other Bauhaus-members. Sandberg became the leader of the Dutch division in the early twenties.
