Title: P.C.Wonder (1777 - 1852). Een Utrechter in London.
Description: Utrecht, Centraal Museum, 2016. 157 pp. Col. ills. Softcover. The Utrecht painter Pieter Christoffel Wonder (1780-1852) started and ended his career in his hometown. He played a prominent role in the Utrecht cultural circuit and was co-founder and prominent member of the Dutch drawing society Kunstliefde. In 1823, at the instigation of Sir John Murray, Wonder left for London, where the art collector introduced him to the cultural elite. The role that Wonder played in Utrecht after his return and his popularity with the Dutch and before that with the English high society have so far been underexposed. This richly illustrated publication contains chapters written by specialists in nineteenth-century Dutch painting, applied art and fashion. - This publication appeared on the occasion of an exhibition held in the Centraal Museum.
