John Woods was an English farmer apparently of some substance who was attracted by the opportunities for himself and his family in the United States, and especially in the Midwest. Like many others before and after, he descended the Ohio River and struck out north and west to give great impetus to the early settlement of the southern parts of several midwestern states. His detailed and interesting account of his journey and what he found was surely an important contribution to the early development of Illinois. A map of Woods's trip from Baltimore to Illinois was drawn for this edition. The original title page also is reproduced (London: 1822) along with other drawings and reproductions from historical records. The volume is in perfect, pristine condition; unmarked, unread, tight, square, and clean. AS NEW. The Lakeside Classics Series. Vol. 66. Maps, Drawings, & Reproductions. 16mo 6" - 7" tall. (xxxv), (i), 242 pp. As New with No dust jacket as issued .
