Title: The Book of Fine Prints: An Anthology of Printed Pictures and Intruduction to the Study of Graphic Art in the West and the East
Description: NY: Crown Publishers, 1956. Revised Edition. Fifth Printing. Hard Cover. Publisher's gray cloth over blue boards, gilt (blue) lettering on spine. Profusely illustrated with 600 B&W reproductions. This is a comprehensive, authoritative, and lavishly illustrated work covering the history of prints and print-making throughout the world, from the first "rubbings" in China more than ten centuries ago, to today's etchings, lithographs, aquatints, woodcuts, engravings, silk-screen, and other prints, including Classic, Modern, American, European, Chinese, and Japanese prints. Carl Zigrosser (1891–1975) was an art dealer best known for founding and running the New York Weyhe Gallery in the 1920s and 1930s, and as Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art between 1940 and 1963. Zigrosser was one of the world's leading experts on prints and printmaking. The volume is very slightly bowed, otherwise in excellent condition; unmarked, tight, square, and clean. The unclipped ($4.95) dust jacket, now in Mylar, is chipped along the edges with some small losses, else fine. NEAR FINE/GOOD. B&W Reproductions.
