When it was first published by Lippincott's Magazine in 1890, Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray" was considered by some members of the English public to be immoral. Its controversial reputation only grew when, in 1895, Wilde stood trial for homosexual acts, and the novel was used as evidence. Spine sunned, former owner's bookplate tipped-in on ffep, otherwise the volume is in perfect, pristine condition, unmarked, tight, square, and clean.
