Half-Titles in each volume. The book was originally serialized in Blackwood's Magazine (1839-1840). This is the first English, and first authorized, edition; the text was pirated and published in Philadelphia in 1840-41, a few months before this first authorized edition. Printed in Edinburgh by Ballantyne and Hughes. [NCBEL, III, 970; Sadleir, 3034; Wolff, 7072]. Spines lightly sunned, some very minor wear on edges and corners, else fine; unmarked, seemingly unread, tigh, square, and clean, with no foxing or stains. A very handsome set.
