In the case of Scarlatti, who was chapel master of the basilica from 1707 to 1709, this volume adds to the small portion of his sacred music that is available in modern editions. Gasparini did not serve as chapel master of the basilica, but he had a very close relationship with it. From 1725 to 1727 he was master of the "Salve," a private chapel of the Borghese family within the basilica. This volume is the very first to present sacred music of Gasparini in a modern edition.
