This is the auction catalog for Part One of the famous sale of the library of A. Edward Newton, Parke-Bernet Galleries Sale No. 276, held in New York on April 16, 17, and 18, 1941. This Part was comprised of authors whose last names began with the letters A-D and occupied four auction sessions over a period of three days, and included 584 lots. Also included are two contemporary newspaper clippings reporting on the sale, which included an important collection of works by William Blake. Sessions 1 and 2 includes a former owner's pencilled notes of the prices at which each lot was sold and the name of the buyer.
