Professor Eugene Vinaver a pupil of the great scholar and humanist, Joseph Bidier was himself a great scholar and reader in French at oxford and professor of French Language and Literature at Manchester where he was head of that department for thirty years. In 1966 he was presented and honorary volume to celebrate his contributions to medieval scholarship. The present volume is complementary to that and celebrates his modern scholarship.
