Description: Edinburgh, 5 December 1853. Letter. Two-page AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED "J Ruskin" on both sides of a 4-1/4" x 7-1/8" sheet addressed to a Mr. Dennistoun (probably James Dennistoun, 1803-1855, an antiquary and art collector in Edinburgh) declining a dinner invitation due to "a very tiresome operation involving delicate care" of packing for rail travel and "bidding goodbye to a kind old friend, Dr Brown, & then paying a visit of respect and thanks to the clergyman .. Dr. [?], both to be done on Thursday evening." Ruskin delivered a series of lectures on architecture and painting in Edinburgh in November 1853. Creasing from mailing with mounting strip along one edge; mild soiling. Very Good .
