Tennyson's second published work, presented in company with the other Chancellor's prize-winners of the year, and the first to appear under his own name. Tennyson was too shy to read his prize-winning poem in blank verse aloud in the Senate House and asked Charles Merivale to undertake the reading of his work as well as Merivale's own Latin poem, also published here. William Harris Arnold's copy, with his small bookplate on the inside of the front wrapper. Uncommon in original wrappers. Some fraying to the spine of the wrappers with loss, minor creasing.
