Author: ROOSEVELT, Eleanor Title: Autograph Limerick Signed
Description: 7 August 1930. Manuscript. A four-line poem, a limerick, completely in Eleanor Roosevelt's hand on 6" x 3-1/2" Executive Mansion stationery, dated and SIGNED by her. Apparently given to an employee. "There was a young fellow called Joe,/Who thought he was coming too slow,/But he made up his mind to be the whole show/And now there's a corporal named Joe--." Mrs. Roosevelt's understanding and feel for politics was greater than that for poetry. A rare form of the First Lady's autograph. We are aware of only one other example of a poem in her hand which sold for $1000 plus premium at auction, nearly 25 years ago. We sold this piece 16 years ago and offer it now at the same price we sold it for then. Fine .
