The beginnings of printing in Michigan date from the printing of Congressional Acts in Detroit in 1796. In all 600 issues of the press are meticulously described. Apart from the thorough bibliography, McMurtrie also provides a hundred-page narrative history describing the spread of printing in Michigan and the controversies that arose in relation to printing there. Illlustrated with facsimiles of title pages and portraits, this book is notoriously difficult to find and has not been available in reprint previously. Besterman 5210. Fine .
