Wollaston, the author, (1660-1724) devoted his life to writing treatises on religious questions. The Religion of Nature Delineated upholds the intellectual theory of morality of which Samuel Clarke, Newtons disciple was the chief proponent. The first edition of 1722 was small, filled with uncorrected errors and sold without the authors knowledge or consent. In 1724 the printer Palmer reprinted the work with Wollastons corrections. It is said in his Auto-biography Franklin reports that he composed the second edition Lowndes has this from Franklin ?
