David - Jerome David) + 9 full page woodcuts + text woodcut + tailpieces and foliated initials. . Quarto early paper-covered thin boards (very worn & stained, one compartment of spine lacks paper covering, head/foot of spine worn, but held by 3 strong cords). Lovely engraved titlepage + printed title +[10]pp prelims +[2]pp portraits of Petrarch + 208pp + [2]pp licences to print & errata. Collated complete but pp182-3 mis-numbered 192-3. Neat gift inscription (H.M. from M.N. 1904 + Gabriele d'Annunzio quotation) on front endpaper, tide-marks of former damp mostly near front & back and quite pale, not damaging paper stability. Neat paper repairs to margins of 1st few leaves, p121-2 marginal paper loss mended long ago. *Far scarcer than the 1650 edition, this is a rare book with charming pictures illustrating Petrarch's life.
