Description: London & New York, John Lane the Bodley Head 1897 color plates throughout [24] + 4 blue & 4 brown & 4 green endpapers by Walter Crane with black illustrations to both covers & endpapers . 4to orange/brown pictorial covers [ spine sunned and 1" along front board soiled/bubbling along hinge and to lower board/ black illustrations rubbed and slightly scratched but no splitting or wearing down of cloth] Gift inscription to verso of first free end paper. Each of the two doublepage end-papers to front and back boards show offsetting from pastedown to the free endpaper. Next come the 2 leaves with Titlepage and Preface. Then each of the 3 stories have a titlepage with on the verso, a 2 page spread of a doublepage endpaper + 8 numbered leaves of full colour plates printed one side only + another doublpage endpaper. Each of the stories has a different colour and design on the endpapers. There are a few minor signs of use but a bright nice copy with three stories bound in one hardback volume. Two further volumes were also issued with 3 stories each but also available as separate single stories bound in soft card covers. First published by Routledge but in a smaller format.
