I have seen other copies of this book with the 6 plates hand colored but according to R.McLean in VICTORIAN BOOK DESIGN & COLOUR PRINTING he states that The Playmate nor its sister magazine The Charm had colored illustrations .."in neither were coloured illustrations used.."p54 The contents includes poetry, stories and fairytales, factual information and historical sketches but despite its variety of content it survived only about one year.
