Heard & repaired tear without loss to fly leaf. Leather gilt bookplate of Estelle Doheny. 2nd Title: red cloth with gilt children's heads & black lettering to cover and gilt titling to spine (tips worn/rebacked with one hinge split and spine relaid) vii +303pp +[8]pp publisher's books, endpapers have further publisher's lists. First six leaves with tiny corner off. Inscription reads "Thos. B. Preslau, with hearty regards of John Habberton" and ex libris of Estelle Doheny. *A bachelor's vicissitudes looking after the two children of his sister and written in "baby talk". A lovely set of the first books that were a literary success by this author and became a great humorous classic in rather scarce first editions and one with nice inscriptions. From the library of Estelle Doheny (1875-1958) a noted bibliophile whose magnificent collection was sold by Christie's in 1988.
