Title: COWPER'S DIVERTING HISTORY OF JOHN GILPIN with twenty illustrations by Percy Cruikshank
Description: London, Read & Co. 1855 approx according to British Library Hand coloured lithograph Panorama of 20 panels by Percy Cruikshank. . 125x133mm original red covers with near full page paste-on pictorial title to upper cover, blindstamped red cloth to lower cover (tips slightly worn/covers rubbed/lower cover bit marked) 20 panels, long ago mounted on linen, but only first 10 panels had linen as wide as the paper after that all but 1 or 2cm. of back covered by linen but this strained the folds and there are some tears to these parts of the folds, no loss but slight edge-chipping. Several joins to linen backing and cloth frayed at edges. The hand colouring is bright and neat, the text of the poem follows above and below the illustration. Inside of the rear cover contains publisher's list - this is rubbed and rather hard to read. A delightful and scarce panorama unfolds into a 260mm long strip.
