Weatherly, F.E. (introduction by) - WHAT THE CHILDREN LIKE

Title: WHAT THE CHILDREN LIKE
Description: London, Ernest Nister/ E.P. Dutton New York Printed in Bavaria No. 853 1897 approx. Doublepage pop-up scenes (5) full of children - blind man's buff, boating, bicycling, farmyard etc. . Folio cloth spine pictorial boards (spine possibly renewed) 31pp Three ducks have facsimile heads re-attached and 2 other heads are repaired (on back of pop-up only). A few wrong folds are strengthened on back (invisibly) but all sorts of other fragile pieces such as arms with raised whips, ribbons flying, outstretched fingers etc are all intact. The text page edges have fared less well with some edge loss now skillfully repaired but never affecting any print. The pop-up leaves are on thicker and better quality paper and have edge rubbing but no tears to edges. Some of the struts may have been reglued or repaired (invisibly). The pages have been resewn and the book is now fully stable and all pop-ups work (MONTANARO 335). *The pop-up scanned is one with repair to part of a head but also allows you to see the detailed complexity of the pop-ups that have survived beautifully.
