Description: London, George Bell & Sins 1901 Text of the Idylls are in GREEK . 8vo dark red cloth apine gilt lettered [the gilt on the spine is faded/tips bumped & edges rubbed/head & foot of spine sl.chipped] Half title + title with small printer's mark of an anchor & bell + [v-vi =Preface + contents/verso blank + 391pp. This includes the Life of Theocritus + his verse,style etc, the authenticity of the poems & the Pastoral are all in English with a few Greek interpolations. Pages 61 to 185 are in GREEK TEXT only. This is followed by notes mainly in English and finally the dialect & index in both greek & English. From the beginning of the GREEK TEXT on page 61 there are annotations in pencil by a previous owner. These translations pencilled into the margins extend only to the first 24 pages. The last 100+ pages are not marked and the Greek text is entirely unused, clean and crisp. Three pages have marginal tears of two millimeters and are hardly noticable. The endpapers & half title are slightly foxed but otherwise the book is neat and clean.
